In the wake of the bendgate controversy surrounding the iPhone 6 Plus launch, manufacturers are increasingly communicating about the resistance tests their flagship smartphones undergo before launching. Today it is the turn to be tested on the Galaxy S6 Edge, HTC One M9 and Apple phablet.
The test we’re going to show you today was not conducted by a manufacturer, but by SquareTrade, an American company specializing in mobile insurance.
Therefore, it is not an “in-house” test of the power of the hand, real scientific testing using a machine This will repeatedly apply pressure to each of the three devices to identify when the smartphone begins to bend before it becomes completely unusable. As we heard in the video, the robot allows to simulate the pressure applied when the user sits down while the phone is in the back pocket.
Initially, the machine will apply 55 pounds of weight on the iPhone 6 Plus and Galaxy S6 Edge. The first will bend slightly while the second will retain its original shape but its screen will begin to crack. Note that both devices are still working at this stage. At the end of this first step, testers will then try to define it. when will the phone be irreversibly bent.

This second step will therefore make it possible to define from which load the two terminals will become unusable, namely 68 kilos for the Galaxy S6 Edge and 81 kilos for the iPhone 6 Plus. on his behalf, HTC One M9 folds from 55 pounds and then it almost returns to its original shape. But it is no longer possible to turn on the device after testing as the power button is broken.
