This guide will show you how to take an EKG with the Apple Watch 4. This is a new feature of watchOS 5.1.2 that is only available on the newest model, Apple Watch Series 4. If you have an older Apple Watch, you’ll need to upgrade to Apple Watch 4 to get this feature, but you can still turn on irregular heartbeat notifications that can alert you to AFib (atrial fibrillation).

How to Take EKG on Apple Watch?
The first time you do this, you will need to set up the process on your iPhone. After this initial process, you will be able to do it all from your Apple Watch. It takes about a minute to set up the ECG feature and a few seconds to set up irregular heartbeat notifications. When you want to take an EKG on the Apple Watch, it only takes 30 seconds.
- Press Digital Crown on Apple Watch
- Tap the Apple Watch ECG app.
- Put your finger on the Digital Crown and wait until the ECG is complete.
The first time you do this, you will need to set up some options on your iPhone. This includes your date of birth and whether you have been diagnosed with AFib. ECG results are stored in the Health app on your iPhone.
- Open the Health App on your iPhone.
- On the Today or Health Data screens, scroll down to Heart.
- Tap on Electrocardiogram (ECG).
- You can now see your Sinus Rhythm.
On the ECG screen, you can tap any ECG and then share it using the share icon on the top right to send it to anyone. You can also tap Export PDF to easily share a more detailed report from your doctor.
