We have a detailed tutorial on how to play Minecraft on a Chromebook, but this one uses Chrome OS’s Linux container. Installing and installing all necessary libraries is not everyone’s business. Also, the Java version of Minecraft doesn’t work well on Intel powered Chromebooks. So if you have an ARM-supported Chromebook and want to play Minecraft, this guide is for you. This method allows you to seamlessly install Minecraft Java Edition on ARM supported Chromebooks via Play Store. On that note, let’s move on to the guide and learn about the steps.
Install Minecraft Java Edition on ARM supported Chromebooks (2021)
Before You Begin, Make sure your Chromebook supports Play Store. School-issued Chromebooks will not be able to use this number due to lack of Play Store support. But the best part is that you don’t need to switch to Developer mode.
1. First, check if your Chromebook is powered by an ARM processor or an Intel processor. To find out, Open the diagnostic app Look for the processor information next to the CPU usage table from the App Drawer. If it shows Mediatek, Rockchip or Snapdragon then your Chromebook is ARM powered. In my case, I have an Intel-based Chromebook.
Since the diagnostic app is still an experimental feature, you can rely on this handy Chrome app called ‘Cog – System Info Viewer’ (free) to check hardware information. Developed by François Beaufort, a Google employee, the app shows your CPU and architecture name, memory and CPU usage, and more.
2. Next, Install PojavLauncher (free) from Google Play Store to play Minecraft Java Edition on your Chromebook.
3. Next, open PojavLauncher and Sign in with your Mojang or Microsoft account. There were issues with the Microsoft account in my testing, so if you run into any issues, try using your Mojang account. Also, if other login methods don’t work, you can try “Log in as offline account” option. You will still need to enter a valid email address.
4. After logging in, Click the “Play” button. It will start downloading all necessary files for Minecraft Java Edition and Java Runtime Environment on your Chromebook.
5. After the installation is complete, it will automatically launch Minecraft on your ARM powered Chromebook. I then created a new world and the game worked flawlessly. I was … I get 40-60 FPS while playing games., and WASD controls were also working fine. The only downside is that it has some input lag, but is playable.
6. If you have a lagging experience, click the drop-down menu and Select version 1.12.. It offers the best Minecraft experience on ARM powered Chromebooks.
7. To fix mouse input lag issues while playing Minecraft Java version on your Chromebook, click Settings and increase mouse speed. This much.
Enjoy Minecraft on Chromebook Without Developer Mode or Linux
So you can play Minecraft Java Edition on your Chromebook without having to install Linux or switch to Developer mode.
