Easily Export Questions to Google Forms

If you regularly create forms and quizzes in Google Forms, you must be aware of the pain of adding the same questions and answers over and over. This process is monotonous and time consuming to undertake the same repetitive tasks. Fortunately, there is a nifty workaround. Yes, Google Forms now lets you import questions from your old forms.

There is more to this story. Google Forms not only lets you import questions, but you can also choose which ones to import and which to leave. Overall, a very nifty feature.

So if you’re looking for ways to make your process of creating quizzes and surveys in Google Forms a little easier, here’s how to do it.

Lets start.

Stage 1: Open a new form. After specifying the title as well as the name and adding the preliminary questions, tap the Import button from the menu.

If you want to change your form selection, click the Change Form button.

Stage 3: When finished, repeat the same procedure if you need to add a question from another form.

Google Forms remembers previous form selections, and that’s wise. So, if you choose one from within, you can find it just below the Preselected tab.

The downside is that you cannot select more than one form at a time. However, it’s better than the old add and select method.

Perhaps one of the best things I love about the new Import feature is that validations are also imported with questions.

This saves a lot of time.

How to Improve This Method

While the option to select questions from multiple legacy forms is pretty cool, I have a slightly improved workaround.

Instead of selecting and opening multiple forms, I place all frequently asked questions under one form with basic validations.

You may want to organize them by theme so you can easily retrieve them later.

When finished, give it an easy to recognize name.

Save and pin so you don’t have to scroll through the gallery when you need to edit.

Next time you need to transfer questions to a new form, you know what to do. The Preselected Form tab is the cherry on top.

Exporting Questions from Documents to Google Forms

Importing questions from prebuilt forms isn’t the only option available. If you have a Microsoft Word document or Google Doc full of questions, you can use it to create a form.

Of course, things won’t be as easy as drag and drop. However, it beats the process of typing questions and manually selecting answers.

To do this, you will need the help of a Plugin aptly named Doc to Form. It’s free for now and the form creation process is also simple.

Stage 1: To do this, open a new document and go to the Add-on button > Get add-ons.

Here you will be directed to the bazaar. Search and add the plugin in question.

Step 2: After that, click on the Add-on button and choose Document Source > Create Form from Document. Since this plugin is primarily designed for school teachers, you will see the option to add name and teacher name to the form.

These are optional, however, and you can leave the boxes unchecked if you wish.

Stage 3: Next, select the text you want to add on the Document and click Use Selected Text.

After doing this, you will need to select the question type. Click the one that best suits your needs and that’s it. A question was created there.

You must repeat this for all other questions on your list and click the Create Form button.

Note that the generated form does not have any validation. Therefore, you will need to take care of it.

Converting Word Files to Google Docs

If your question material is in the form of an MS Word document, it can be converted.

On your Google Drive homepage, click the Settings icon in the upper-right corner.

Create Great Forms

This is how you can transfer questions from old forms to new ones. This method not only saves time, but also makes work less monotonous.

Don’t forget to select the appropriate section when importing and you will be sorted. After all, you don’t want to waste time rearranging questions, do you?
