In last night’s Spring Keynote, Apple showcased its super-powerful new M1 Ultra chip that swept the competition. Indeed, the end result is two M1 Max chips from the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro, which are already among the most powerful processors on the market. Apple uses a process called UltraFusion. combines both M1 Max chips and offers 2.5TB of bandwidth between the two.
As a reminder, you can find Apple’s new high-end processor in the new Mac Studio compact, starting at €4599. It seems that Apple’s new M1 Ultra is so powerful that it can beat AMD’s most core CPU, the Threadripper 3990X.
M1 Ultra doesn’t have to shy away from AMD processors with three times more cores
Although the CPU of the M1 Max chip has only 20 cores, it managed to score an impressive score. 1793 points in single core in Geekbenchand 24055 points in multi-core. By comparison, the 64-core AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X only 1213 points in heartand 25133 points in all hearts.
if you understood, AMD’s processor is only 4.5% faster than Apple’s chip despite having more than three times as many hearts. Worst of all, AMD’s processor is a 280W TDP compared to 60W on M1 Ultrawhich makes Apple’s chip an alternative 4.7 times more energy efficiency.
The 20-core M1 Ultra is split into 16 high-performance cores, four of which focus on energy efficiency. In comparison, this part is associated with 128GB of combined RAMis the maximum memory supported by the chip, increasing the total memory bandwidth to 800GB/s.
