Web browsing has changed drastically in 2020 and nothing is like it was ten years ago. While web notifications are the new way to stay up to date on a new mail, message, or update, they can quickly become annoying and distracting. You’d be surprised how many notifications from websites within an hour can annoy you, as well as pop-ups in the Google Chrome browser.
Grab the laptop or tablet used by your mom or dad to get some perspective, and you’ll notice the barrage of notifications they receive on their devices. Google Chrome, the world’s most popular web browser, has added new ways to take away the browsing experience.
By making some changes in the settings and taking appropriate measurements, you can completely turn off the notifications from the Google Chrome browser or allow only the relevant notifications.
This post will talk about how to turn off and manage Google Chrome notifications on iOS, Android, Windows and Mac.
Block Notifications From Various Websites
When you install an app on your phone, it asks you for various permissions to work properly. Usually, you let him access everything. Websites use the same psychology in this way and lead users to allow unnecessary permissions.
There are two ways to disable these notifications on Google Chrome desktop.
Disable Notifications From Address Bar
You can disable the notification individually from the address bar. Follow the steps below.
Stage 1: Visit the relevant website and tap the little lock icon in the address bar.
Step 2: Here you will find the Notification menu. Tap on it and block notifications.

Stage 3: If you don’t see the notification option, go to Site Settings from the same menu.
Step 4: It will open the site settings menu, scroll down to the notification option and disable notifications for the website.

You can visit all websites one by one and turn off notifications for them. If you want to block them all at once, use the Google Chrome Settings menu.
Block Notifications From System
Windows and Mac also offer a way to completely disable notifications from installed apps. Follow the steps below to turn off Chrome notifications on Mac.
Block Notifications on Mac
Stage 1: On Mac, open System Preferences menu.
Step 2: Go to the Notifications menu.
Stage 3: Select Google Chrome from the left sidebar.

Step 4: Disable notifications for the browser.
Note: Google Chrome does not use native Windows 10 notifications to send alerts. That’s why you won’t see the app name in the Notifications menu in Windows Settings.
Android
The notification situation is even worse on Android, as notifications from websites can quickly fill the notification area. On mobile, you can receive Content recommendation notifications based on your usage. Follow the steps below to turn off Chrome notifications on Android phones.
Stage 1: Open the Google Chrome browser and tap the three-dot menu above.
Step 2: Dive into Settings > Notifications and it will open the system notification panel to set it up.

Stage 3: You can disable the Content Suggestion notification.
Step 4: Scroll down to the site notification menu.
Step 5: Here you will see a list of websites that have sent you notifications.

Step 6: You can disable the category altogether or disable notifications for individual websites.
Note: There is no such problem in the Chrome iOS app. Apple does not allow third-party web browsers to send notifications to users.
Block Notifications from Google Chrome Settings Menu
Follow the steps below.
Stage 1: Open Google Chrome and tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner and select Settings.

Step 2: Go to Privacy and security and select Permissions > Notifications from the side menu.

Stage 3: First, you will see the list of sites whose notifications are blocked. Scroll down and you will see a list of websites with notifications enabled.

Step 4: Tap on the three dots icon and remove them (When you visit the website it will ask for notification permission again). Use the Block option to completely block such notifications.

Use Chrome Guest Mode or Profile Switcher
If you use Google Chrome on a single computer and share it with other family members, you can receive notifications from other users’ profiles from Google Drive, Google Docs, etc.
For example, if another family member uses the Chrome browser to edit Google Docs or Google Sheets, you may receive a notification from these services. In such cases, it is not recommended to completely block notifications from Google Chrome.

In such cases, you can choose Google Chrome Guest mode or profile switcher.
You can tap the profile icon in the search bar and use Google Chrome as a Guest. If you plan to use it regularly, select add > type account name, select the relevant image. It will open a separate Google Chrome profile and ask you to sign in using Google account credentials.

The next time you open the web browser, be sure to use your profile to navigate to avoid notifications from other profiles.
Enjoy a Distracted Chrome Experience
