In 2020, Apple embarked on a risky process: designing its own processors to avoid Intel’s services. Two years later, the brand is offering three in-house SoCs on its computers and iPads: M1, M1 Pro and M1 Max. The fourth was announced during the March 8 virtual conference. This is the M1 Ultra.
Apple has listed the M1 Ultra most powerful processor from his barn and for good reason. These are essentially two M1 Max chips combined with a 2.5 Tbps interconnect.
Apple presents a little power beast
So in theory we have twice what the M1 Max offers: 10-core CPU, 64-core GPU, max 128GB RAM, 114 billion transistors. In fact, it turns into a huge power. Apple promises that The M1 Ultra is eight times more efficient than the classic M1 and more efficient than most desktop processors on the market.
The advantage of the M1 Ultra is that it is an ARM processor, thus less heating and especially less energy. Apple also states that the M1 Ultra consumes 65% less than a 10-core SoC (without further details). At the same consumption level (60 Watts), it is 90% more efficient than even a 16-core CPU.
Such figures are disappointing. Now all that remains is to test the beast. This will be possible with Mac Studio, The new computer that the brand presented during its conference. Of course, we will have to wait for other equipped products, but for now, it will not be. In any case, the M1 Ultra will be entitled to a trial run with this terminal.
In addition to the M1 Ultra, Apple introduced the next-generation iPhone SE alongside the new iPad Air. In short, there was something for everyone.
