Uninstall Microsoft Edge from Windows 11 PC: A Step-by-Step Guide (2021)
In this article, we will show you how to uninstall Microsoft Edge stable and beta versions from Windows 11. We will also tell you how to disable Microsoft Edge on your computer instead of completely uninstalling it. And at the end, if you change your mind, you’ll also find steps to reinstall Microsoft’s browser. So let’s get started right away.
Remove Microsoft Edge Beta, Dev, or Canary Channel Builds from Windows 11
Removing Microsoft Edge Beta, Dev, or Canary builds from your Windows 11 computer is easy. This is because none of these builds ship with Windows 11 by default; this means you must have manually installed it on your device. So, follow our guide below to remove any pre-release Microsoft Edge builds from your computer.
- Open Settings using the Windows 11 keyboard shortcut Windows key + I. Next, “applicationsSelect ” in the left sidebar and select “Apps and features” in the right pane.
- Scroll down the displayed list and find Microsoft Edge Beta/ Dev/ Canary. Now click on the three dots menu button next to its name and select “remove“. Confirm when prompted.

Disable Microsoft Edge Browser in Windows 11
If you are not the biggest fan of Microsoft Edge, you can choose to disable the browser in Windows 11 instead of completely uninstalling it. Here’s how:
- Navigate to the following folder on your computer:
C:\Windows\SystemApps. Next, locate the following subfolder:Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe. Now, right click on the folder and select “renameRename the folder by clicking the ” icon.
- You can rename the folder to anything you want. After choosing a new name press Enter and “Go on” on the popup to confirm your decision.

If disabling the browser is not good enough, you can choose to uninstall Microsoft Edge from Windows 11 using Command Prompt or Windows PowerShell. In this article, we’ll show you both methods, so let’s get started right away!
Method 1: Uninstall Microsoft Edge from Windows 11 Using Command Prompt
To uninstall Microsoft Edge via Command Prompt, you must first check the Microsoft Edge version number on your computer. Here’s how to do it:
- Open Microsoft Edge and click the three-dot menu button in the upper-right corner. Go now “Settings” from the pop-up panel.
- On the next page, “About Microsoft Edge” under the left sidebar.
- You will now see the version number of the Edge browser you are using front and center. Make a note of this because you will need it for the uninstallation process.
- Next, open a Command Prompt window in Administrator mode. To do this “cmdIn the Windows search bar ” (without the quotes) and “Run as administrator“.
- Next, copy and paste the following command into the Command Prompt window:
cd %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Microsoft\Edge\Application\9*\Installerand press Enter.
note: We are using the number “9” with wildcard “*” to access the Edge installation folder as it is currently at version 9x.x.xxx.xx. You can also use the full version number which in my case was 92.0.902.62..
- Then copy and paste the following command and hit Enter to uninstall Microsoft Edge from your computer:
setup --uninstall --force-uninstall --system-level
This much. You have completely uninstalled Microsoft Edge from your Windows 11 PC.
Method 2: Uninstall Microsoft Edge from Windows 11 Using PowerShell
You can also uninstall the stable version of Microsoft Edge from your Windows 11 computer using Windows PowerShell. Here’s how:
- Open PowerShell on your Windows 11 PC in Administrator mode. To do this, search for “powershell” in the Windows search bar and click “Run as administrator“.
- In the PowerShell window, copy and paste the following command and press Enter:
get-appxpackage *edge*. Now, copy the full path to the installed Edge browser. You will see it next to “PackageFullName”.
note: There are multiple ways to copy text from PowerShell and Command Prompt, but the easiest way to do this is to highlight the target text and use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+C to copy the highlighted text..
- write now
remove-appxpackageand press space bar on your keyboard. Then paste the copied address next to the command you just typed. Check the screenshot below to clear your doubts.
note: You can paste the address using the Ctrl+V shortcut..
Finally, hit Enter to execute the command in Powershell and uninstall Microsoft Edge from your computer.
Reinstall Microsoft Edge on Windows 11

- go to official Microsoft Edge page. Next “Launch Microsoft EdgePress the ” button and follow the onscreen instructions to download the latest version of Edge to your computer.
