After years of delay, Evernote has finally announced Evernote Tasks for its popular note-taking platform. Right after the launch of Evernote Tasks, users are comparing it directly to the popular to-do app Todoist. If you’re wondering if Evernote Tasks is good enough to replace Todoist, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s compare both tools and find out all the differences between the two.

Cross-Platform Availability
This is neck length. Both Evernote and Todoist are available on all platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, and the Web. Todoist and Evernote are also available as Gmail and Outlook add-ons.
User Interface and Performance
Evernote has recently received a major redesign across all of its apps on mobile and desktop. It carries all the relevant options at the bottom for easy navigation.
The Evernote app preserves the classic look and feel of the app across all platforms. However, one of the areas Evernote lacks is customization.
App launch/load time was slower compared to Todoist. While Evernote offers a dark theme, it misses advanced customization options like changing app icons and custom theme engine like Todoist.
Speaking of Todoist, it’s a pleasure to use. We appreciate the customization options. The UI is fluid and the app overall feels better built compared to Evernote.
Adding a Task
At first glance, both Evernote and Todoist offer the same user interface for adding tasks. But dig deeper and you will find all the differences in the app. Let’s start with Todoist.
Press the + icon and Todoist opens a small popup window just above the keyboard for adding tasks. You can add task names, dates, add tags, comments, reminders, and even set priority. It’s all there and working as expected.
Todoist achieves this when it comes to smart tasks. For example, you can add tasks like ‘Pastas for Saturday brunch’. The application converts the expression into a task.
Another example is ‘take medicine at 8 PM’ and Todoist will add a task.
With Evernote, you are essentially adding tasks to a specific note. And this is a great idea. Evernote’s core strength lies in its Notes functionality. Fortunately, the Tasks functionality is tightly integrated into Evernote Notes.
As soon as you try to add a task to Evernote, the software will prompt you to select a note for it. If you want to add essential tasks, Evernote adds tasks with a default ‘To do’ note. When adding a task, you can choose a due date, add reminders, and even prioritize the task.
Features
Todoist is a dedicated task management application and has been in development for years. However, Evernote is a new kid around the corner, and it will take at least a year for the app to catch up with Todoist.
Todoist comes with a variety of features, including projects (lists), a productivity section to see your progress, a Goal function, and even a handy vacation mode.
After a few months of use, you can see all the statistics from the same section.
Todoist also supports Siri Shortcuts and iOS 14 widgets. But we were surprised by the lack of the same support in Evernote.
Evernote is first and foremost a note-taking app. The Tasks function is a basic function and should be sufficient for the average user.

Evernote Tasks is free for now. However, we expect the company to bundle it with Evernote Premium once it’s out of beta. Evernote Premium costs $70 per year and unlocks unlimited notes, advanced note editing features, Evernote Home, and more.
Todoist is also a freemium product. You can pay $3 a month and unlock all the customization features and other goodies.
Manage Tasks Like a Professional
If you’re aiming to replace your current Todoist installation with Evernote Tasks, be prepared to be disappointed. It still has a long way to go. However, one area where Evernote Tasks can help is with notes integration.
If you’re planning a trip or writing a long blog post in Evernote, you can add tasks to the top of the notes and keep track of every detail. However, if you are an advanced user, stick with your current task management system for now.
