How to Send a Message to the School?

Probably one of the best virtual learning environments, Schoology can also be used as a social networking service. It allows its users to create, manage and share academic content using LMS (Learning Management Systems) and CMS (Course Management Systems) on a cloud-based platform.

The platform’s social media features simplify collaboration within a classroom, group, or school. One of the best ways to take full advantage of the social media aspect of the platform is to understand the full capabilities of the messaging system. Some information about the messaging system and how to use it:

Before You Begin

Because Schoology is used by many different schools and universities around the country, there are a variety of settings depending on the needs of the institution. This means that some of the options below may not be valid and you cannot send or receive messages unless specified by the System Administrator.

Sending a Message Using the Top Menu

You can use the top menu to access your messages quickly and easily from anywhere in Schoology. When you receive a new message, a yellow number indicator will appear above the message icon. The indicator will remain until the message pops up. To send a message from the top menu, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the message icon in the top menu.
  2. Click New Message.
  3. A new window will appear on the screen. First, you must enter the recipient’s name in the “To” field. As you type, a list of users will appear and you can select the appropriate user from there.
  4. Enter the subject and message.
  5. Click Submit.

If the targeted recipient’s name does not appear in the list as you type, it means they have restricted messaging in their Privacy Settings. If you want to do the same:

  1. Click your name in the top right corner of any page
  2. choose settings
  3. Click on Privacy Settings
  4. From there, you choose which content can be viewed by which group of people. Find the combination that suits you best.
