Top 7 Ways to Fix Spotify Not Working on iPhone

Spotify is popular with music lovers because of its AI-generated playlists, group sessions, real-time lyrics, and other features. Perhaps the only thing that disappoints is Spotify’s app experience, especially on iOS devices. Users have frequently reported cases where the Spotify app keeps lagging or has stopped working altogether.

If these sudden crashes are keeping you from your favorite songs and podcasts, you can easily apply a few troubleshooting fixes to fix the problem. We’ll start with the easier options first, and then move on to the somewhat troublesome ones. Let’s dive.

1. Check Internet Connection

Spotify relies on an active internet connection to stream music and podcasts. So, you will have to check if the mobile data or Wi-Fi connection is working fine on your iPhone. Slow and inconsistent internet connection will ruin the experience. Run several quick speed tests to get the approximate strength of the internet connection on your iPhone.

2. Restart Your iPhone

If the internet is fine and you’re still having trouble using the Spotify app, restart your iPhone.

On iPhone X or later, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Up or Volume Down button at the same time and use the slider to turn off your iPhone. On older iPhones, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the slider appears and use it to turn off your iPhone.

Wait for the iPhone to turn off completely. Now press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears to start your iPhone.

3. Logout and Login

If Spotify signed you out for some reason, the app may not work properly. In such scenarios, you can try logging out and logging in again on all devices to see if it helps. Here’s how.

Stage 1: Open the web browser on your PC and go to Spotify’s website. If you haven’t already, log in to your Spotify account now.

Step 2: Click on your profile icon in the top right and select Account from the list.

Stage 3: Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the ‘Log out anywhere’ button.

Now go ahead and sign in again to see if the app works fine now.

4. Clear Spotify Cache

Spotify, like any other streaming app, collects cache data containing songs you have listened to in the past. This helps the app reduce buffering and save bandwidth on songs you listen to over and over again. But as with most cache data, it’s impossible to tell when it might get corrupted. And when that happens, you may experience app related anomalies where your music keeps pausing or crashes suddenly.

So, you can try clearing the cache data of Spotify to eliminate the problem. Here’s how.

Stage 1: Launch the Spotify app on your iPhone. Tap the gear icon in the upper right corner to open Settings.

Step 2: To remove Spotify cache, go to Storage settings and tap on Clear cache button.

5. Update Spotify

If you haven’t updated Spotify in a while, now would be a good time. This is because app updates usually bring all sorts of improvements and bug fixes to the app. If the version of Spotify you’re using becomes unstable, and updating the app to the latest (possibly more stable) version can get Spotify working again.

6. Reinstall the App

If the other fixes didn’t help much, you can try reinstalling the Spotify app. Note that it will remove all Spotify data (offline downloads and login details) from iPhone. After reinstalling the app, you can log in and give it a few moments to show you your playlists and favourites. Of course, you will have to re-download the songs you want to listen to offline.

7. Update iOS

Apart from updating the app, Spotify also recommends updating your iPhone to fix optimal experience and compatibility issues. Like app updates, OS updates contain bug fixes and performance improvements to enhance your iPhone experience.

To update your iPhone, launch the Settings app and go to General. Now tap on Software Updates to search for new updates.

Probably the last thing you want is to be interrupted while listening to music. This is the last battery drain issue or sound issues during playback. Recently, iOS users have been having trouble enjoying the Spotify app. Peace of mind, the above solutions should help with the problem.
