Like iPadOS 14.8, iPadOS 14.8.1 is a minor upgrade. It doesn’t have any known features or bug fixes, but it brings significant security improvements to iPad users.

We’ll start with our impressions of the performance of the iPadOS 14.8.1 update.
iPadOS 14.8.1 Review
If your iPad is currently running iPadOS 14.8, iPadOS 14.8.1 requires a fairly minor download.
If your tablet is running an older version of iPadOS, your update will likely be larger. In some cases, much larger. This is because features and fixes from iPadOS 14 updates you skipped are added to your iPadOS 14.8.1 update.

iPadOS 14.8.1 Issues
iPad users are reporting issues with iPadOS 14.8.1.
The current list of iPadOS 14 issues includes installation issues, Exchange issues, issues with first and third-party apps, issues with Face ID, UI lag, Wi-Fi issues, and Bluetooth issues.

Note that if you cannot stand the performance of iPadOS 14.8.1 on your iPad, you cannot downgrade to the older iPadOS software.
Apple not signing in iPadOS 14.8; This means that you cannot migrate your iPad back to the previous iPadOS 14 version to improve your tablet’s performance. Unfortunately, you can’t move your iPad’s software to anything older than iOS 14.8 either.
This means that those upgrading from iPadOS 14.8 and below to iPadOS 14.8.1 should be careful. Once you take action, you cannot revert to your current iPadOS version.

iPadOS 14.8 is an extremely minor update. Again, there aren’t any new features or bug fixes on board.

iPadOS 14.8.1 Jailbreak
developer teams behind checkra1n and UnC0ver jailbreaking tools have released versions compatible with newer versions of iPadOS 14, but these are not compatible with iPadOS 14.8.1. At least not yet.

Apple allows iPad users to stay on iPadOS 14 so you can bypass the company’s new iPadOS 15 operating system. iPadOS 15 brings lots of improvements and most iPad users will want to upgrade.
If you decide to keep your device on iPadOS 14, Apple will release new iPadOS 14 software, but change logs will likely be limited to bug fixes and security patches.
